Few countries appeal to such a wide range of visitors as Mexico does. Endless stretches of white sandy beach, ancient ruins, coral reefs, spectacular nightlife, colonial towns, authentic foods, snow capped mountains, industrialized cities, modern art and luxurious resorts are just a fraction of what this country has to offer. Mexico consists of 31 states and one federal district. It is the third largest country in Latin America and has more than 110 million inhabitants. Spanish is the official language spoken, but many different indigenous languages are spoken as well. The vast majority of the population is Roman Catholic, with a small percentage of other Christian religions and some indigenous religions as well. The economy is driven by tourism, oil and gas and industrial production, textiles and clothing and agriculture and the countries currency is called peso (1 US$ = ~ 11 Pesos).
